As soon as you have more than one video source to select between (camera, DVD player, computer, etc.) you have the need for some type of component which provides you with seamless (read: glitch-free) switching between those multiple video sources. Enter the video switcher. It’s primary, but not only, purpose is the seamless switching between 2, 3, 4, 8 or more video source eliminating not only “glitchy” transitions but also the need to switch video inputs on the video projector (which is also a highly-glitchy maneuver). Video switchers, like people, come in all shapes and sizes not to mention price ranges. But which switcher is right for you? How many inputs (and what type) do you need/want, especially to avoid outgrowing your switcher 1, 2 or even 5, years from now? What features are the most important? What about HD? And what in the world do all those buttons do? (especially that knob that looks like the gear shift on my manual transmission 1978 Ford Mustang II!?). |
